People who follow the pack. People who are led. People who mimic. People who have the power to think for themselves but who, for whatever reason, don’t. People who are vulnerable to ‘influencers’. (What a sad day it was when social media brought us this devil.)

Know any of these people? I bet you do!

I remember in my teenage years I always thought of myself as a bit of a dag. I loved all the 80’s pop and love songs when all my peers loved the hot 40 countdown. I never smoked or did drugs whilst many of my peers did. I only ever had a few ‘brand name’ pieces of clothing that I had to work hard to pay for yet many of my peers were dripping in them.

I was popular but still felt I was daggy. I was terrified when someone would ask me “What kind of music do you like”? How could I possibly say John Denver, Bette Midler and Air Supply? Gahhhhh!

(Yep, still love em to this day!)

I remember buying my first pair of Doc Martens at about 16, because that’s what all the cool kids were doing. I remember buying my first ever ‘Rip Curl’ ski jacket, because that’s what everyone wore. In those formative years I tried to be what I thought I ‘should be’. I tried to keep up in order to fit in. The teenage brain focuses intently on what others think. Fact.

In the period of tweens and teens that behaviour is so common it’s almost expected as part of reaching developmental milestones. It goes hand in hand with the normal social experience of adolescence.

The beauty of ageing however lies in insight. The ability for most to know intuitively that they have come into themself. That they have now overcome that pressure to blend in, to have and to be. For most people self worth improves as we age. We become proud of our quirkiness. Proud of our identities. Proud of our truth.

For some it’s not so black and white.

The things is, you have to do life your way, for you and for you alone. Follow trends if you must. Keep up to date if tech is your thing. If fashion is your thing. If make up is your thing or if home decorating is your thing.

Live a life that’s full of authenticity. Don’t be afraid to show the world who you are! Be proud. Be bold!

Be free; Of judgement. Of perfection. And of vanity.

Let it go!

Feel inspired. Feel good. Feel loved. For who you are and for what you stand for. Not for who you try to be or who you want to be. Don’t let others dictate to you. Don’t conform. Learn to live peacefully in your space. Your place. Be wildly in love with your uniqueness. How cool to think that in all 7.5 billion people in the world there is no one just like you. Your story. Your journey. Your ‘thing’. It’s all beautifully you.

Don't try and shadow because a lot of what we see today is manufactured BULLSHIT anyway!

Your opinions? They matter. Your likes and dislikes? They matter. Your beliefs? They matter.
