We’re almost at the end of January. How on earth did that happen so fast??? If you haven’t decided on your word of the year for 2020, you need to act NOW!

Word of the year. What is it you ask? It’s a RED HOT word that will guide you forth in 2020. A word that will be your inspiration and your motivation. A word that will shift your focus from overwhelm to crystal clear clarity. A word that will help you realign with your big picture ‘why’.

It’s not a “new year’s resolution” because we all know how well they generally go… right?

This is your MANTRA. Your COMMITMENT TO YOU.

It might be something you want more of. Or less of. Something you want to learn. Or something you want to achieve. Maybe it’s a goal. A hope or a desire. Or maybe it’s a feeling.

Whatever it is it has to make you want to get out of bed and GET GOING. Every single day. It has to light your fire of determination. Your ability to step forth and own your choices, decisions and outcomes.

  • Maybe you want to treat your body better in 2020 – your word might be NOURISH
  • Maybe you want to start a business in 2020 – your word might be HUSTLE
  • Maybe you want to save $10,000 in 2020 – your word might be GROWTH
  • Maybe you want to find love in 2020 – your word might be CONNECTION
  • Maybe you want a more stable life in 2020 – your word might be CALM

Do you see where I’m going with this? Right. Now, in the spirit of true transparency, I’ll share my word!

 

My word for 2020 is ACTION! That’s it… ACTION. I WANT TO GET STUFF D.O.N.E

 

Here are the areas I’m working on and how I’m going to remain committed to them;


FINANCES

This year I wanted to create more organisation and more clarity around my money. I regularly check my accounts and watch where things are going in terms of direct debits and the likes but I felt I needed a system. A more solid budget. I also wanted to start putting pen to paper as I learn that way more so than using apps and calculators.

So what have I done?

I found a super doper finance geek on Instagram. Not boring, I assure you! Her name is Miko and she runs the HUGELY successful business ‘The Budget Mom’. Miko turns budgeting and saving into FUN. Yes, it is totally do-able! Since January 1, 2020 I have used Miko’s system to set up a budget, a debt pay down plan and several savings goals. I’ve also found a fab new budgeting book to use to track everything from payday to payday. It’s cute. Pretty and fun. Check her out here.


BUSINESS

Last year my pain points were planning and organisation. I struggled with business induced overwhelm. I had all the ideas and NONE of the planning for implementation. It literally drove me nuts. I wanted to do but not enough got done.

So what have I done?

Whilst walking around the Big W back-to-school aisles I found a really cute notebook. It is pink, black and white and because they are my She brand colours, the book jumped out at me. It is divided into 5 sections with cute black and pink tabs. I sat down over a few nights in the summer holidays and labelled each section with the name of one particular part of my business. Then, over a few hours I sat in creative mode and pumped out 12 MONTHS worth of planning work. I came up with 47 weekly blog topics (not including holidays when I don’t publish), 12 months’ worth of article topics (I write monthly articles for The Southern Highlands News) and I put together 12 months’ worth of content for my local single mum’s group.

How am I feeling on the SAY NO TO OVERWHELM front? 100% FREE.


HEALTH

For the last few years I’ve had issues with unexplained weight gain, low iron and missing periods. I’ve also had a diagnosis of early onset osteoarthritis in my left knee AND I still have Diastasis Recti (ab separation from pregnancy). To top it off I had my lady flower checked last year at a routine check-up and now I have to have surgery. My body needs some serious TLC. It is most definitely time to take action.

So what have I done?

Late last year I started doing a weekly boot camp class. It’ run in the park across from my house so, guess what… I have ZERO excuses! I will continue doing that in 2020. I have also finally made my hospital booking for my lady flower, as uncomfortable as that was I know it could save my life. And, just today I made my first ever booking with Belinda Byrnes Nutrition – Naturopath and Nutritionist extraordinaire. Health should be prioritised above all else and this year… I’m onto it!


TRAVEL

I grew up travelling and exploring, it’s in my blood. It’s something that connects me with my world and helps me feel grounded. I worked for Qantas in my 20s and only left to have my first baby and move to the country. During my years of service I was so fortunate to use staff travel benefits to see the world. I had so any awesome adventures and made so many precious, precious memories.  Since becoming a mum, and then a single mum, travel has taken a bit of a back seat. And I feel emptier because of it. Cue the sad sound effects. Hhaaa. We have still done our fair share of domestic travel and I even took the kids on a cruise for Christmas 2018 BUT… I want to commit more money and more time to this love in 2020. I want to show my children that their world is bigger than their postcode. I want them to experience other cultures. I want them to learn about other ways of living. And I want to instil in them the value of giving back to others when travelling.

So what have I done?

Set up a financial plan to turn this into a reality (see finance info earlier!) and… made a 2020 travel bucket -list. (Who doesn’t LOVE a good bucket-list?!). Everything and anything. Cheap, expensive, local, far away, adventure based, nature based… all of it. Everything in my wildest dreams. Why? Because the only limits in life are the ones we place on ourselves! I’ve also changed my work hours to maximise productivity and free up time for LIVING. As you should too. x

 

So there you have it… an inside look at my plans for ACTION in 2020!
